Renowned Rwandan music artist, Ariel Ways with her Loss and Damage Youth Coalition has released a song titled ‘Loss and Damage’ produced to advocate for actions to address loss and damage.
Music has been part of the human experience since the beginning of culture. Songs entertain, connect us to one another and help us express something in a way that other media do not.
Artists have always found creative inspiration from the times they live in. And the times, to quote Bob Dylan, they are a-changing’.
Multiple generations of artists have lived their lives and grown up in an era of unprecedented climate change. It’s no surprise that elements of rising floods, powerful storms and increased heat are making their ways into more and more songs.
From Disney to indie, here are some songs with subtle (and not so subtle) allusions to environmental conservation and the impacts of climate change

About the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition
The Loss and Damage Youth Coalition (LDYC) is a global network of young negotiators, activists, researchers, storytellers, communicators, and trainers from both developing and developed nations.
The Coalition advocates for bold international action on loss and damage (L&D) issues, recognizing youth engagement and leadership as essential for a fair and effective transition. Since its inception after COP25, the LDYC has grown to over 1,300 members across more than 90 countries.
Together, they empower those on the frontlines of climate change’s most severe impacts while challenging the inequalities that hinder climate justice. The LDYC envisions a world where loss and damage are addressed equitably, holding developed countries accountable for their disproportionate role in the climate crisis.
They strive for a future that honors the rights of generations to come, ensuring a stable climate and a safe environment. In alignment with its mission, the LDYC specializes in sending youth delegations to key multilateral meetings and summits, providing capacity-building sessions and trainings on L&D, amplifying personal stories from those affected, and addressing critical gaps in L&D research.
