Dubai, UAE – June 2, 2025 — In a bold move that merges sports and environmental protection, the SECOTO Board has approved the launch of a global initiative to organize international and local tournaments featuring eco sports clubs from countries that have signed the Paris Agreement on climate change.
This groundbreaking initiative is designed to unify the power of sports, culture, and entertainment to drive forward climate action and conservation awareness worldwide.
The Paris Agreement, adopted under the UNFCCC in 2015, remains a key global framework in the fight against climate change. With nearly 200 countries committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to environmental challenges, SECOTO is building on this momentum by integrating eco sports tournaments into the global sustainability agenda.
By engaging eco sports clubs aligned with the Paris Agreement, these tournaments will highlight the vital role of athletes and sports organizations in advancing climate goals.
The tournaments will take place under a unified series of events branded as the Green Cups, including:
• SECOTO National Green Cup
• African Green Cup™
• American Green Cup™
• Asian Green Cup™
• European Green Cup™
• South American Green Cup™
• Oceanian Green Cup™
• World Green Cup™ of Eco Clubs
Each Cup will serve as a platform not just for sport, but for education, engagement, and innovation in environmental sustainability.
What makes these tournaments unique is the diversity of voices they aim to bring together. The events will welcome:
• Youth and rising talent in sports
• Performing artists and creative voices
• Social media influencers
• Climate scientists and conservationists
• Indigenous leaders and grassroots organizations
• Sports fans and communities from around the world
This fusion of sport and purpose is designed to inspire climate leadership through action and storytelling.
The decision to green-light the tournaments was made in the wake of SECOTO’s global launch during COP28, and signals a major milestone in the movement to use sport as a driver for environmental impact.
Preparations are already underway for the inaugural Green Cups in 2026. SECOTO will work hand-in-hand with governments, international sports federations, climate NGOs, and local communities to ensure the events are impactful, inclusive, and aligned with global sustainability goals.
