The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) and its related meetings, including CMP 19 and CMA 6, will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22, 2024. The primary focus of these gatherings will be to advance the goals of the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, which include:
Limiting Global Warming: Efforts to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C are central to UNFCCC COP 29. This aim is crucial for preventing catastrophic climate change impacts.
Adapting to Climate Change: Adapting to climate change is another key focus of UNFCCC COP 29. This includes addressing the adverse effects of climate change, fostering climate resilience, and promoting low greenhouse gas emissions development.
Mobilizing Financing: Mobilizing financial resources for climate action is essential for achieving these goals. The conference will work on establishing a new collective quantified goal on finance and enhancing access to resources for developing countries.

MEDIA in COP 29
In the context of the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, the media plays a crucial role in covering and disseminating information about the conference proceedings, discussions, and outcomes related to climate change. The presence of journalists from various countries, especially from low- and middle-income nations, is essential to ensure diverse coverage and perspectives on the global issue of climate change.
The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) has been instrumental in facilitating the participation of journalists in COP events, including COP29. Through programs like the CCMP Reporting Fellowship, journalists have the opportunity to report on location at the conference, interact with experts and officials, and contribute to raising awareness about climate change issues worldwide.
Fellowship Logistics
The CCMP COP29 Reporting Fellowship program offers selected journalists from low- and middle-income countries the chance to attend COP29 in Baku. The fellowship covers essential expenses such as airfare, accommodation, meals, insurance, and ground transportation for the duration of the conference. Additionally, fellows receive support in obtaining press accreditation and logistical assistance throughout their stay in Baku.
Before the start of COP29, fellows undergo preparatory activities such as virtual workshops to familiarize themselves with reporting opportunities and key issues at the conference. Once in Baku, they engage in various activities designed to enhance their reporting skills and understanding of climate-related topics through briefings, networking events, interviews with officials, and guidance from experienced climate journalists.
