More than 30 fruit trees have been planted to boost biodiversity.
Southern Housing planted the trees in Battle to mark the coronation of King Charles III.
The trees were planted as part of a project led by Rother District Council.
The event was part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) Coronation Living Heritage Fund, a £2.5 million government fund to support tree planting initiatives.
Southern Housing staff joined the Mayor of Battle, local schools, charities, and councils to plant the trees in the first cross-district community orchard.
The trees will increase carbon storage, clean the air, and provide shade and pollination for insects.
Angela Sharman, resident involvement project officer at Southern Housing, said: “This event has been a great opportunity to engage with our residents and enhance habitats and boost biodiversity in the local area as part of our focus on 30 species by 2030.
“A huge thank you to Rother District Council who led on the event.”
Southern Housing launched its Biodiversity Pathway in June this year.
It sets out targets to promote seasonal campaigns and invite residents to community initiatives, among other plans to help create a greener future
